Merchants collect and use consumers’ confidence collected actively or passively. Shaping the Changbai Mountain School: Necessity and Possibility -On the Discourse Surrounding the Formation of Artistic Schools
Artistic schools represent a theoretical paradigm in the discourse of art history and art historical narrative. While discussions on Chinese art genres and artistic schools have been prevalent in classical Chinese art, theoretical introspection regarding their existence has emerged relatively late. In recent years, there has been a growing academic debate in China about the rationality of artistic schools. Of particular interest is the assertion made by some scholars that there is no need to deliberately create artistic schools. As a duality in the realms of art history and art historical studies, does the existence of artistic schools have theoretical and aesthetic justification? What are the boundaries, and where lies their value? This paper, drawing insights from Changbai Mountain painting, combines theoretical discussions from art history to explore the rationality and limitations of the existence of artistic schools, aiming to provide a new perspective for the discourse on Chinese art’s artistic schools.

Comparing the Discrimination of /b/-/p/-/pʰ/ among Shanghainese and Mandarin Native Speakers
Article thumbnail
Shanghainese speakers show a variety of phonological phenomena depending on the region and age of the speaker. Junior Shanghainese speakers exhibit a mixture of Mandarin and Shanghainese phonology and usually speak Shanghainese with many discernible differences compared to the old generation of Shanghainese speakers. Crucially, Shanghainese speakers often acquire Shanghainese as a second language and transfer Mandarin phonology to it. This paper aims to examine the ability to discriminate the three-way contrast /b/-/p/-/pʰ/ among senior Shanghainese speakers, junior Shanghainese speakers, and Mandarin speakers through an experimental study. The experiments show that: 1) Senior Shanghainese speakers perform less well when presented with isolated stop sounds, and they use other acoustic cues rather than plain VOT differences in everyday speech; 2) the acquisition of Shanghainese as a second language only has a limited effect on junior Shanghainese speakers’ internal phonology. Therefore, the contribution of this study is that it has determined the importance of VOT in the discrimination of Shanghainese stops and has explored the degree of influence exerted by the acquisition of an L2.

The research implements the method of process tracing in the case study to analyze the phenomenon related to a specific object. This paper includes an objective description and tracking of the event, an analysis of the mechanisms behind the phenomenon, and a generalization of the illustrated mechanism. The conclusion is that the concept of freedom in dress is alienated to be subjective and used as a commendatory phrase. The social gaze is replacing the traditional male gaze in the field and influencing individuals differently. The research emphasizes that academic words are possibly twisted and construct the connection between media, gender, and language. This research will help with understanding the gender discussions of the public and a possible renewed gender model.

Legal Protection and Recognition of Homosexuality in China
As the homosexual population in China is increasing constantly, more people are becoming more open-minded. Attitudes of ordinary people towards homosexuality have slowly changed from exclusion to acceptance. Chinese legal system needs several modifications to better protect the legal rights of homosexuals, including restrictions on violence and same-sex rape and same-sex marriage laws. Due in part to this predicament and traditional social rejection, gays live in an environment rife with violence, prejudice, pressure, psychiatric issues, and even suicide attempts. This research suggests three solutions to obtain their legal rights and social acceptance: homosexual education, a homosexual organization, and legal reforms. This study aims to further the cause of binary-sex individuals while assisting the homosexual community—and, in an ideal world, all sexual minority groups—in obtaining their legal rights and protection. It also aids in identifying the areas of the Chinese legal system that require alteration as contemporary society moves toward a more liberal ideal.

Kang Youwei: The Trans-Historical Kongjiao Movement and Confucian Universalism
There are two overarching themes that run through Kang Youwei’s writings: the reform of laws as a means to save China, and the concept of “Datong Shijie (大同世界)”. In his response to the profound transformations taking place in the world, which he referred to as the “unprecedented changes of three thousand years,” Kang Youwei sought to adapt traditional Confucian teachings (jingxue) and other conventional ideologies. However, his ambitious endeavor to establish a Confucian national cult ultimately met with failure. The academic community has long held divergent views on Kang Youwei. While his early ideas and efforts to reform the legal system are generally viewed positively, his later ideas supporting monarchy are often dismissed. This paper analyzes Kang Youwei’s thought and the formation and inclination of the concept of Datong, as well as its interconnections with the Kongjiao movement. It can be concluded that the lack of historical precedent for establishing Kongjiao as a system in China and people’s apprehensions about the potential political implications of Kongjiao led to the failure of Kang Youwei’s reform movement. Moreover, Kang Youwei’s advocacy of Datong through the establishment of Kongjiao failed to resonate with the literati of that time. Undeniably, there is a possibility that Kongjiao could become a new locus of power outside imperial authority.
