Women in Post-World War II America: Portrayals, Stereotypes, and Challenges
Article thumbnail
This essay examines the portrayal of women in post-World War II America, focusing on the perpetuation of gender stereotypes and challenges faced by women in the era. Through historical and visual analysis of primary sources, namely a Coca-Cola poster and the iconic V-J Day in Times Square photograph, the study reveals the complexities underlying societal attitudes towards women during this transformative period. The Coca-Cola poster exemplifies the idealized image of women as submissive caregivers, despite their growing role in the workforce. Similarly, the analysis of the V-J Day photograph unveils the contrast between the perceived romance and the reality of non-consensual interaction, shedding light on the evolving understanding of consent and the limitations of prevailing gender norms. By juxtaposing historical context and visual representation, this research underscores the nuanced interplay between media imagery and the evolving societal roles of women in post-war America. The study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges and representations women faced in shaping the post-war landscape.

Alexander's Eastern Expedition was one of the most brilliant expeditions in the world's military history. Although Alexander's Eastern Expedition brought profound disasters to the people of Eurasia and Africa, the process of accompanying the Eastern invasion objectively made the spread of Greek culture to the East and the process of infiltration of Oriental culture into Greek culture. At that time, religion and culture were inseparable under the system of the unity of church and state. As a result of the dispersal and fusion of primitive religions during this period, the mainstream religions that determined the values of the majority of the world's people in later times were formed, thus influencing the course of human civilization.

A Case Study of Digital Natives Using English Buzzword ‘cue’ in Vocabulary Capacity in Second Language Acquisition in China
With the increasing fragmentation of people's reading habits and the prevalence of attention distractions, internet buzzwords, which focus on capturing the essence of events and reflecting the sentiments of the masses, have emerged and gained immense popularity online. However, even though there has been a series of research on this type of buzzword in China, most of the research on buzzwords tends to be limited to exploring the words’ evolution and their application in a certain region, leaving a huge gap in the relationship between the use of buzzwords and users’ vocabulary competence. Taking the buzzword ‘cue’ which is a typical “Anglo-Chinese style expression,” for example, the case study tries to provide a new perspective in hopes of finding out the appearance of vocabulary capacity in internet buzzwords. The proposed research will employ a mixed-methods approach, integrating semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. The former will be used to compare different kinds of digital natives’ comprehension of the buzzword ‘cue’ after dividing them into 3 groups by their frequency of using electronic products. Simultaneously, a corpus of comments or responses will be gathered during the focus group discussions, aiming to discern any potential correlation between vocabulary competence and the use of buzzwords.

How Art Has Been a Window to the Post-War Generation in Japan
Article thumbnail
In this research, our primary focus revolves around the role of art as a lens through which we can examine the impact of World War II on Japanese citizens, with a particular emphasis on the post-war generation. Two renowned Japanese contemporary artists, Nara Yoshimoto and Takashi Murakami, are central to our study. While their artworks may not seem directly related to the war at first glance, a closer examination reveals that both artists use metaphorical expressions to convey the fear and aftermath of the war. Through this study, I also found that both artists experienced the war's effects during childhood due to the bombings that marked its conclusion. This analysis explores how the Japanese perceive themselves in the aftermath of the war. Rather than addressing the topic directly, they often employ metaphorical references. The significance of this study lies in shedding light on the indirect ways in which the Japanese people reflect on their post-war identity and the lasting impact of World War II.
